When I was a young boy I
received many awards in elementary school including one in early 1982
for "Excellence in Computer Science". (Thank you Mrs. Buick).
This special elementary class was probably the real starting point of
my interest in computers. Who would have thought that it would lead
to my chosen career?
By the age of 12, I bought
my own computer and immediately began expanding my knowledge about the
BASIC programming language through the use of books and trial-and-error
methods. I've always been one to learn from reading and hands-on personal
experience.
Over the years, I learned
more and more about computers. I began fixing my own computers through
reading and understanding. Widespread use of the Information Superhighway,
the Internet, led to an abundance of reading material. Now I could read
about the topics I want to read about at the moment I am wanting to.
Once I got access to that abundance of information, there was no stopping
me.
Then it happened. I can't
recall exactly when though, it must have been around 1996, people began
asking me to repair their computers. It was family at first, then friends,
friends of friends, and so on. Complete strangers were asking me to
work on their computers. Imagine that Mrs. Buick.
One thing led to another,
and I decided to "open shop". My Florida sales tax registration
was effective April 16, 2004, and I opened for business on May 1, 2004.
Over time, I considered to
myself the possibilities and the benefits of remote computer services.
The traditional methods left a lot to be desired. Remote connection
computer help and other remote computer services are so much more convenient,
and often quicker. I started using remote connection software to further
help local clients as well as some friends from as far away as Australia,
Great Britain, and Japan.
I could help more people
each day. I could charge a decent rate for the services by saving on
fuel costs and the amount of time it took to travel between clients.
Imagine the effect on the world when more companies realize that sometimes
the same work can be done without all the travel. Also,
my clients would not have to unhook all the wires on their desktop computers.
I could quickly tell that
this was a great way to help people, help the environment, help the
computers, help destroy viruses and other malware, maybe even save the
whales someday, and take my computer help and repair business to a new
level.
